SAVE THE DATE - Trees and Construction: Designing and Constructing Projects while Respecting Tree Resources
Mackenzie Dawson and Kevin Butt are arborists who will share the fundamentals of protection and consideration of trees before, during and after the construction period. Access for machinery, excavation and fill areas and material stockpile locations can all result in significant impacts to trees within and adjacent to the workzones. These activities can lead to tree damage and / or removal or unnecessary liability if trees become compromised. MacKenzie and Kevin will also discuss standardized requirements in many municipalities for tree investigations, their implications and challenges on construction projects.
- Kevin has 25 years of experience working in the environmental industry, preparing natural heritage and tree studies throughout southern Ontario. These studies have been completed for both public and private clients and range in scale from single residential lots to major road corridor and multi-developer block plans. Study deliverables include environmental impacts studies, arborist reports, tree risk assessments, tree appraisals, preservation plans, ravine stewardship plans and mitigation designs. Kevin has liaised with government and review agencies, property owners and their agents and the general public through the approval stages, including project initiation and scope determination, public information centres, submission of materials, implementation assistance, construction supervision and monitoring.
- Mackenzie is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist for R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited, with 6 years of experience and is responsible for preparing arborist reports, tree preservation plans, environmental monitoring reports, species at risk assessments and environmental impacts studies to accommodate for site alterations, planning and environmental assessment. His role is involved in several types of projects including public sector capital works, private sector land development, and environmental monitoring. Mackenzie also provides quality control for project teams and strategic advice throughout the project phases. Mackenzie is knowledgeable in federal, provincial and municipal environmental legislation and is experienced in liaison with other specialty consultants, planners, conservation authorities and government agencies.
