Traditional flat roofs are designed to shed rainwater quickly, contributing to urban flooding and increased pressure on municipal infrastructure. Credit Valley Conservation’s Smart Blue Roof takes a different approach, capturing, storing, and actively managing up to 40,000 litres of rainwater.
This session will share findings from three years of performance monitoring, exploring how this innovative technology can reduce stormwater runoff, conserve water, lower utility costs, and support climate-resilient communities.

Phil James is the Senior Manager of the Integrated Water Management team at Credit Valley Conservation. His team leads initiatives focused on green infrastructure, low impact development, flood resilience, and watershed sustainability. He works with both public and private sector partners to advance innovative water management solutions that support climate-resilient communities.
