Inspiring the Future of Public Works

The Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) is thrilled to partner with schools like yours to introduce students in Grades 6 to 8 to the exciting world of public works. This program is designed to spark curiosity and show students how they can play a vital role in shaping the communities of tomorrow.

What We Offer: A Visit from Public Works Professionals

We want to bring the world of public works directly to your classroom. We will send two of our dedicated public works professionals to lead a fun and interactive presentation for your Grade 6-8 students. Our diverse speakers will share their real-world experiences and insights, covering topics like:

  • Clean Water: The journey of water to our homes.
  • Building Our World: The construction and maintenance of parks and roads.
  • Waste and Recycling: Understanding what happens to our garbage.
  • Career Journeys: Personal stories from those in the field.

Presentations are tailored to be age-appropriate and relevant to your students’ curriculum. We will work with a teacher from your school to ensure the content aligns with your learning objectives.

Our Goal: Connecting Big Ideas to Real-World Careers

Our mission is to connect big ideas like citizenship, sustainability, and innovation to tangible careers that students might not have considered. We aim to inspire all students, especially those from historically underrepresented communities, to envision themselves as future leaders and problem-solvers in public works.

The OPWA is a not-for-profit organization of volunteer professionals from municipal organizations, engineering firms, and public service organizations across Ontario. We are dedicated to sharing knowledge, supporting diversity, and inspiring the next generation to build strong, inclusive communities.
