9:20 – 10:00: Kevin Brown: Challenge the Status Quo

Kevin Brown completed his Civil Engineering degree at Queen’s University, and has over 25 years experience municipal servicing, hydraulics, and hydrology in public and private sectors throughout Ontario and internationally. His career experience has gravitated to Infrastructure Planning, including master plans and class EAs, hydraulic capacity assessments, and collection system evaluations. Kevin currently manages Robinson Consultant’s Municipal Services Division through the East GTA. Kevin is a former Chair of the OPWA’s Communications Committee, and is active in the Public Works Industry, primarily through OPWA and WEAO.

Kevin’s talk will focus on encouraging YPs to find their own voices, and to Challenge the Status Quo (…but carefully… and thoughtfully). He will share some tips from his own career experience, but also from other Young Professionals that he has worked with over the years. He will also share his current challenging of the status quo, relating to design criteria for sewers and watermains!

10:20 – 11:00: Panel: Bridging the Generation Gap

Do you ever have those moments where you think, I just don’t understand what they are thinking? Oh those boomers, or what’s going on with those gen Zs? Or there’s the milennial pause. This panel is for you! Ask your burning questions to our panel consisting of these generations, and understand the gap in communications! What motivates the younger generation, why are the older generations so hard on me, or not giving me an opportunity?

Meet the Panel:

Hoda Eissa is a newly graduated civil engineering student from the University of Toronto. She has been at R.V. Anderson for almost a year as an Engineering Designer where she focuses on the design and drafting of roads and municipal infrastructure. She previously completed her yearlong internship at the City of Toronto, for Vision Zero Projects.

Lisa Ma is a transportation engineer and planner specializing in complete streets implementation and transit project delivery. She has over 8 years of experience working in both the private and public sectors, and is currently at the City of Toronto contributing to major rapid transit expansion initiatives.
